I'm trying to transition my son into a bed. 3 year's old. I put him into a bed he kept falling out. So now he is on a mattress on the floor. He is there for weeks already. I always find him out of bed on the floor. He is my 3rd kid. Never had this happen before with my others. Is this typical for a 3 year old? What can I do to help him get used to a bed.

Is he falling out or going out? I have 3 kids who have beds, but choose to sleep on the floor most nights. Beats me why, though!
(They are 8, 5, and 2 if that helps)

Your post made me laugh
No he falls out while sleeping. I'm always worried he will get hurt.

Is he trained at night? He may just move a lot when he sleeps, and not be self-aware enough at night to keep himself from going over the edge. (Similar to kids who wet the bed.)
The mattress on the floor is great, I'd just stick with it until he gets a little older.

You can get a rail for the bed.

OP, get a rail!! Son to a friend of mine fell out of his bed - it ended in concussion. I believe it's extreme but still, get a rail.

Place a pool noodle under his sheet. It's sort of a blocker and won't allow him to roll over easily.

Another vote for a rail. Kids that age can move around a lot at night.

Similar to what another poster wrote. I taped three pool noodles together into a triangle, then taped that to the plastic sheet on his bed, and placed his sheet on top. He hasn’t fallen with this. And while it doesn’t look awesome it is far nicer than having those huge ugly netted bars. (Wooden ones are pretty, but are very costly and don’t work with all beds) and I have him get on from the short side of the bed so he’s not struggling to climb over that.
