The sky ride is closed. There is a long line of tourists usually waiting to get into the Empire State Building

Why don't you go to Rockifeller? They have a Lego store and a Nintendo store. A few blocks down is the Apple store. You can take a horse and buggy ride at Central Park.

Is ice skating open? LEGO store sounds good. And can they try samples at Nintendo store?

Horse and buggy is a cute idea, but I find that they are so expensive for such a short ride, not usually worth it...

Not in manhattab but museum of moving image (in queens) is supposed to be great. They have a special Muppet exhibit going on

Otherwise I think D&B, B&N and Lunch is a great plan!

Well, its not Manhattan-centric, but he can burn off some energy at Chelsea Piers.

The rink at Rockefeller Center is open. The Tree next to it is up, but hidden by scaffolding while they decorate. It might be interesting to look at for a minute or two.

What about Children's Museum of the Arts.

I recently spent several days in the city with my two 8 year olds. I think their favorite activity was the Staten Island ferry (we just took it back and forth). Other big hits were the Lego store by Rockefeller Center, the Central Park zoo, the Museum of Natural History, and simply walking around and seeing things like the 9/11 memorial, Bryant Park, Battery Park, even just riding the subway.

I wouldn't do D&B or B&N because those aren't really Manhattan specific... they are the same everywhere. If the point is just to enjoy time together than go for it!

The point is to just spend time together. I chose manhattan because there is a ton to do all in a small vicinity. It’s not like manhattan is super special for us. We can go there any day.

The LEGO store is fun, especially if he's into LEGO, but it's also pretty small and you can see it quickly. If you're planning on doing Rockefeller Center anyway, check it out, but don't go there especially for the LEGO store.

Gullivers Gate!!!

If he likes action, then I think he will get bored of gullivers gate. It is a very interesting place, but I could see a child getting bored there.

I think there is a kids version of Escape The Room. I wasn't there but my sisters kids age 9 and 11 loved it

My sister said she went to this creepy neighborhood in Harlem but the place was really fun.

I checked online and found a blog of a woman saying that the best Escape the Room for kids is:
The Mystery Room
mysteryroomnyc.com (checkout the site)
365 7th Avenue
Midtown

Or 190 Mercer Street
Soho

Check this out, we've been there several times, and I think your son will love it: http://www.modernpinballnyc.com/. There's a Groupon to make it much cheaper. You could also try a Stray Boots scavenger hunt in a neighborhood he might find interesting (Chinatown?). There's also Bryant Park ice skating if it's open, and renting bikes and riding across the Brooklyn Bridge.

My parents take DD into the city occasionally as a special day out.

They've done Broadway matinees, but I think that's only available Sunday or Wednesday.

I know they all enjoyed the Sony store and the Museum of Natural History.

They once did a workshop at Chocolate Works. Some of the stores are under hashgacha but you'd have to check if they're acceptable to you.

There's a new experience available in Times Square that sounds cool but pricy. https://natgeoencounter.com

Both of these sound cool. Do you know more about the second one? I don’t mind spending.

My kids were bored at the lego store (and they like lego). It was fun looking at the big display in the windows but that's about it unless you're planning on shopping there. If you're skating at rockefeller center than it's worth walking it but definitely not worth a special trip.
Gulliver's gate was underwhelming, better for a date than kids.
My kids love D&B.
If you watch movies maybe watch a movie at AMC times square.

I think my two year old would love it too! And my 11 year old. But I think this one will get super bored super fast. Natural history is great, we actually love the hall of African mammals and the dinosaurs, but this particular child will get bored fast without his brothers.

His interests are sports, arcades, anything fast paced and exciting really. And he loves movies. If it’s somewhere with exhibits, they better be really interesting or he will get really bored.

Museum of television And radio - not sure if it's for an eight year old

The National Geographic exhibit in Times Square sounds great and looks so cool on their website. I was about to figure out when I would be taking my family there ... when I checked the reviews. Look on both Tripadvisor and Yelp. I can't remember seeing something so hyped get such bad reviews - how disappointing!

I though of ice skating. Is it open already?

How long can we spend at gullivers?

Is there anything for kids at Madame Tussaud’s? Or is it basically just wax figures? I haven’t been there in about 12 years.

Ice skating is open today from 8:30am-12:00am. Their number is 212-332-7654
Gullivers is about 1 1/2 hours
Wax museum is basically just wax figures - not very action packed
