Today my daughter learnt that god wants her to fear me.
She laughed and said god is lying because I won’t hurt her.
But what about those little kids in her class who really have reason to fear their parents?
This is messed up.

I agree תִּירָ֔אוּ translated as revering rather than fearing is easier.
But did the teacher say - fear your parents (or mother) because they (she) might hurt you? Thats messed up. That's not the consequence that should have been taught.

That's a very poor translation by the teacher, but interpreting the verse to mean a parent might hurt her sounds more like a preschooler's interpretation of "fear" than something the teacher actually said.

I doubt the teacher said to be scared of you because you will hurt her otherwise. That's juvenile thinking and probably your own daughter's interpretation. I wouldn't worry about the rest of the class.

That's messed up. Have talked to ur daughter about it. Does it mean fear as in respect your parents or fear as in abuse?
