My seven year old son asked for some very practical things this year. He wanted a watch, an alarm clock and an umbrella. My mother thought it was hilarious.
He also loves to read. His birthday comes right after channukah so I am going to get a subscription to the circle. He wants the experience of having the magazine come in the mail etc.
Legos are always a hit and so are playmobile. I am also a big fan of experiences.

Sports equipment (whatever sport is "in"), board games. Life, rummikub, monopoly, ticket to ride, Diy building kits, erector sets, walky talkies are a big hit.

Drones are a big hit with boys.hoover boards are very in style if u wanna spend a lot.
A lego set with a theme that he is into is a good choice as well. You can get sets at all price ranges.
