just a clarification OTC only goes up to 4th grade this year and there is only 3 kids in that grade this year.
Yes, I just assumed anyone potentially interested would only be interested for next year at earliest and it sounded like OP wouldn't mind small group learning. But you are totally right.

As for hashkafa and feel, OP, I think the best thing to do is always to check a school out in person and meet some families, unless it's obviously far beyond the pale hashkafically or simply impossible for other reasons (like location). Hatzlacha!

There is also a Montessori school in Brooklyn called "al pi darko" it might be more to the right. Worth checking out. There's a new Montessori school in monsey but I believe it has just two grades at this point.

Simba, I think it's an absolutely wonderful idea, and I'd love to see this become the wave of schooling in the future. So many kids are falling through the cracks!

DD is in a public school now, and is barely getting passing grades. In her case, her problem is anxiety and ADD. I think having a one on one tutor might work for her, if there is a good personality fit, although she'd probably waste a lot of time chatting.

She would do well with a computer based program, because it wouldn't trigger her anxiety and need to please. The computer does not care or have feelings to get upset.

Of course you know your kids best, and you know what style of learning will fit them. One may need hands on, active interaction, while another one might do better with screen based structure.

There are lots of alternative styles out there, so keep open minded and do LOTS of research.
There is a Yahoo group for frum homeschoolers, jewishorthodoxandhomeschooling.

This blog is also very helpful, http://avivahwerner.com/2015/0.....hool/
