I'm planning a trip next month and need help understanding how I can use my American cell phone in Israel.

If you have any experience and suggestions that would be awesome! Thanks!

I used a special international Sim card in my phone. I got it mailed to me from Israel before I left for my trip. I used a company called Easy Israel. His rates were better than the companies that do this here. It included a US number so I could forward my calls and people could reach me by dialing my usual cell number. Also, calls to and from US and within Israel were unlimited. Israeli texting was unlimited. US texting is not unlimited. Unlimited Wi-Fi but he says it slows down after 10GB. +972583333555 is his number. You can reach him via whatsapp. He texts well in English however it's not his native language. Just good to know. His customer service was great.

If you have sprint or tmobile (dont know about other carriers) you can call up to have it setup to use overseas. Texting and data is free. calls are 20 cents a minute. No need to purchase a new sim card or use a new phone number.

I think that option mentioned above me can add up very quickly. Verizon also has a $10 A day global plan. I'm not sure what's included either..

This option doesn't give you a local Israeli number for people to call.
I use unlimited Israel to get a Sim card. Great prices, excellent customer service. They have an office in Monsey and Jerusalem.

It's great only if everyone you need to be in touch with has what's app.

Correct This option is free but works only if everyone you need to be in touch with has WhatsApp or similar so you can use the data for calls for free.

My mother is here, she recently got a new phone and they told her that it could be unlocked after she's had it one month. So she went to get it unlocked, and they tod her, "oh, you have to have it six months."
So check that out.
My mother comes at least once a year, so she owns an Israeli SIM card.
If you have upan unlocked phone and a friend who could lend you a SIM card, that would be your best bet.
Usually Golan Telecom has the best prices.
