I guess it's same thing as naming your son Tzvi.
It's graceful. Strong yet tame.

I heard something about the Ayal davening for its friends and taking care of them first, before itself

Also from tehillim, K'ayal taarog... a mashal of our neshama's yearning for Hashem

Yes, agree, it's like Tzvi. Come to think of it, why not ask about the name Chaya.

No but its meaning is not exactly the rosiest. People use it anyway.

I also love how Ayala sounds, but not the meaning. But this is exactly why I don't use animal names. Or names with other meanings that don't seem relevant to a child. But that's just me personally, people have many reasons for using all sorts of names - they like the sounds, they like the person their naming after, they like a pasuk, they like how it relates to some concept or midah or whatever. A name has as much meaning as you give it.

Out of all the animal names that exist as names for people, deer is quite a nice one I think.
Better than Dov, Devora, Ze'ev. Although all animals have their good qualities.

Ayala, or the masculine Ayil, also reminds me of Akeidat Yitzchak, and the ram that was caught in the thicket, it reminds me of Rosh Hashanah and the Shofar, and the geula.
Although strictly speaking, I think an Ayil is a ram, which is not a male deer, but it sounds the same.

Yes, Ayil is a ram. The female sheep (ewe?) is kivsah.
Ayal is a male deer or whatever that's called in English (too lazy to look it up now embarrassed ) and Ayala is the female of the species.

Ayil is a ram
Eyal is the male version of Ayala (in the Passsuk "k'ayal ta'arog" the Nikkud is vhanged because of the Kaf that comes as a preface)
