Rethinking the Second Amendment

On the one hand, we would want to think that the average citizen could be armed against a government takeover and that the government gives us that right to defend ourselves, should the government become totalitarian.

OTOH, we don't keep Sherman tanks, IEDs and missiles in the driveway or garage and heavy military artillery is not sold legally to the average citizen.

On one hand, we can't outlaw something that is circulating in the millions and make common criminals out of ordinary citizens by owning something that has been legal for at least two centuries.

OTOH, we can't ignore the growing safety hazard of having something that is more accessible than a McDonald's burger, in the hands of people who want to use it to do harm.

Freedom has it's price but do we really have that freedom and are we really willing to pay that price.
