do you want to be with a shul in walking distance, a mikve not like 200 kms away, kosher food available, or do you do without?

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/I.....e.svg

I've been in Aquitaine (left side, near the sea) and loved it, but it's pretty Jewless and you need to bring your own food or rely on the kashrus list (but I'm told non Europeans don't go without a hechsher).

you can go there:
http://www.topj.net/fr/topadresses/liste.tpl
set "rubrique" on "synagogues" or "mikvé"
set "pays/région" on "sud est" or "sud ouest"
and see what comes up.

when you know where you'll be, you can search kosher restaurants there
http://www.123cacher.com/fr/re.....r.php
you just enter in "région" wher you'll be

for shuls, you may want to ask if they are affiliated with the Consistoire.
I don't think the few non Orthodox shuls are written in there, but you may want to be careful.

I had a wonderful vacation in the south of spain, Marbella/Puerto Banus. They sell kosher food in the grocery (Hipacor) and there is a small Meat Restaurant in Puerto Banus. There are other Kosher Restaurants like a 30 min. drive, I was there for a week and had a wonderful time. We drove one day to Gebralter (has kosher food as well, large Jewish community) Our hotel was truly beautiful, we found it on expedia.com HOWEVER, and that is in caps because during the summer months end of june, july, august I think it is very expensive since many people vacation there. I went in May so we got great deals on everything (car, hotel, tickets...) yet it may be a lot pricier during the "hot" summer months. You can PM me if you have further questions.

Gibralter is a tiny place yet it has a thriving frum community, (as Ruchel said, english speaking, Gibralter itself is a British colony) so it is a good place to be near. I've always wanted to visit there.

Lots and lots of europeans go to Spain for their vacations (lots of people in our community have holiday apartments there) so I imagine it is pretty busy. But anywhere nice is during the summer.

Really? I remember the houses to buy were sooooooo not expensive - but no idea about renting... Hotels I don't remember either. But now, I was in a not that well know area, around Jonzac, Pons... gorgeous area.
Wanna visit Cognac ? LOL
