I don't see why not. I know you are not allowed to have hanaa from milk and meat (basar bechalav), but I don't think that applies to pig leather.

Not a problem to wear pig leather.
In regard to hannah from milk and meet, that only applies to food that is a dearisah and there for the meat had to be from a kosher animal and shechted properly has to be from an animal not a bird, and the milk and meat have to be cooked together.

Just a question:

Are those of who don't want your kids seeing pigs in a book ok with pigskin?

its not just about pigs in a book, its about creating an environment with treif animals and its a chinuch issue.

pigskin is no chinuch issue.

What if your child asks where the leather comes from?

(And if you don't mind explaining what the chinuch issue is-- I'm really just curious)

Oh please, no one is denying the existence of pigs and going to the zoo and farms are allowed just fine

Simply not to surround them with treif items.
Surely you realize that Kashrus is not merely a technical issue and there is a spiritual side to it.
so treifus represents an element of tuma and the idea is not to have kids growing attached to miss piggy or such. Not to have them growing attached to treif characters etc.

That does not mean we deny the existence of treif animals and the benefits we can and are allowed to derive from them such as - clothing etc.
Even if a child were to grow attached to their pig skin shoes, its the shoes they are growing attached to, not a treif character.

Obviously I don't buy into the whole treif animals thing (I tend not to let kabbalah have much bearing on my life), but I can respect that from a certain perspective it would be an issue.

That being said, I can't really understand the difference between the cartoon animals and hanaa from a pig. If it is spiritually lacking, I would think that you would want to distance yourself from it in any way possible. In fact, I would think it would be worse to wear it on your feet then to see it in a toy, which is just plastic, not real, and does not give any clues as to what the true nature of a pig is.

because you are not understanding the reasoning behind it.
You think that I'm saying that to bring little miss piggy into the home is to bring tuma into the home and I'm not saying that.

again, as I said, its a chinuch issue.

There is nothing wrong with having shoes made out of pig skin, its not spiritually lacking to wear it

growing attached to something that represents a tumadik origin is another issue entirely and the issue here is what their minds are occupied with.
