Is there a way I haven't heard of to check out a company?
Am I risking much when paying by credit card, even if I haven't heard of the company?

6pm was bought out by Zappos. Zappos has a very impressive record for customer service. I've heard some amazing stories about them. They now offer their new employees a bonus to quit because only the really serious ones will stay on, so they can protect their reputation for quality customer service.

Would Customer Service be identical? Stock and prices aren't.

But they don't have free shipping unless you spend over $100...Zappos charges more because they give free shipping and return shipping and an amazing return policy (1 year).

They are cheaper than zappos but don't have such a long return policy- just something to keep in mind.
I was used to ordering from zappos and forgot to return some stuff in a timely manner- but that's not their fault
Very happy with the items and website.

They do not offer free returns so I only buy from the if it's a really cheap pair ($14...) or if I know for sure the size. I'd avoid shopping for kids on the site. The first time I ordered from them I was really disappointed. They had the best online price on Converse sneakers for my daughter, and I was convinced I was ordering my daughter's size. However, they were way too big and I had to pay about $7 to send them back.

I hear that their products are the previous year's stock from zappos that's why they are cheaper. No clue if that's accurate.
I have ordered from them, they are reliable and shipping is free. But return shipping isn't free and when we're talking about shoes- that sucks! I ordered cheap sandals for my kids I thought I knew their sizes but it was too wide. I had to pay to return them it was so not worth it!
