Don't they contain mercury, which releases toxins....
That's what I am confused about.
I would recycle them, I just don't know where to do that.

Throw them out, but be careful. If one breaks, you have to evacuate your home until the gas dissapates. I put them directly into the outside garbage can.

if you are in nyc they just sent out fliers about recycling them because of the mercury.

The local HOME DEPOT collects them to send to recycle. They also collect batteries.

careful with those dougnut shaped lightbulbs. if they break you need to call EPA (environmental protection agency). very toxic stuff!
