Looking through some old papers, I came across the following poem I must have written in sem. Thought it was interesting, so I'm sharing. Anyone else have old poetry stashed away?

The Flower

Upon its lithe and lovely stem
Swaying gently in the delicate breeze
Its petals locked in an inward grasp
Hiding away from prying eyes.

It peeks through its gossamer petals
Now glowing from the sunshine
And gasps at its own beauty
And ever more tightly curls itself.

Other flowers, gaudy bright
Fling open their arms to the warmth
And bob their heads to all passing
Vain in the admiration.

The flower sees their gorgeousness
And sees the joy they generate
It wonders if its subtle beauty
Would elicit admiration.

Then in a moment of determined act
Throwing away its timidity
It uncurls itself and begins to share
Its sweetness with all the world.

It takes the sunlight, the liquid gold
And transforms it to cascading silk.
Seemingly effortless, but I know-
For I too am a flower.
