Silly questiojn here - to prevent pasta from sticking to itself, do you add oil to the water while cooking or to the pasta after it was drained?

If you add oil, the tomato sauce doesn't stick to the pasta very well.

I don't add oil either but other tricks I've learned are to keep the water boiling the whole time (ie don't turn flame down or simmer) and stirring once after adding the pasta then not stirring any more until it's cooked.

I only add oil if I make Chinese noodles, or some other type of pasta dish, which isn't going to be served immediately.

I don't add oil to things like mac n' cheese, spaghetti and meatballs, etc.

Salt doesn't keep the pasta from sticking, it's to give it flavor.

My noodles never stick. I put in the pot of water a little salt and oil. When it bubbles the noodles go in. I make sure there is enough water in the pot until the noodles are all done.

Oil does help prevent stickiness, but like I said before, the sauce won't stick to it well.

never add oil ... rinse with warm water not cold or the noodles will get cold as well ... of course if I'm eating it right away ... also stir often in the pot & keep the water boiling like ozfest said ... why do they tell you to turn the flame down I'll never know ...

Ditto.
Water with salt boiling rapidly then adding pasta. Drain in colander in sink, rinse with cold water.

If you want to make the pasta hot again, just place it back in the pot over a low flame with whatever sauce or seasonings that you will be adding. Stir until heated through.

DO NOT use warm or hot tap water. The hot water pipes have things running around in them that do not belong in food, drinks, or in our bodies. (That's why you should always use cold tap water to cook with, no matter what.)

is martha stewart a doctor or health specialist?

this article discusses cooking in hot tap water but drinking it is also a no-no so I wouldn't rinse my pasta in warm or hot tap water.
