I put in sweet potatoes and also vh plum sauce. whenever the butcher has it I get smoked meat that wasn't cut well or ends of it b/c the shape doesn't bother me and it is much cheaper - plus it gives the cholent a great taste.

I first soak my beans (not the barley) overnight in water and rinse it well in the morn. it is supposed to reduce the gas.
about the coke I add 3/4 cup instead of water. it just adds a very good taste can't explain...just a nice taste.
my friend uses beer.

hindy, you also put in jachanun? and I thought I was the only weird one. (they usually cook it overnight on a low temperature in the oven.)
I didn't know it was Yemenite. NEAT! My sister's friend's mother, who I think it Israeli, makes it. They sell it frozen in the grocer's section.
