ok, I just want to vent: my brother and his longtime girlfriend live together in boston. he is a student and she works. under massachusetts state law, they have "domestic partnership" coverage for insurance. meaning, if my brother was a woman, he could claim "domestic partnership" with his girlfriend and get insurance coverage. but since he's a man, he's left without any coverage. this is just totally dumb.

So let them get married. The benefits are for those who are committed.

oh yeah, I just want to add: where is the logic on behalf of the state that they are willing to insure "married" OR "unmarried" gay people but not straight people? I mean, the whole thing is just ridiculous.

It's decided by commitment. Not gender or s-xual preference.
Why is that so hard for you to wrap your head around ?

So fight for constitutional gay marriage and your equity problem will be solved.

no chocolate moose, it is not decided by commitment. according to the state of massachusetts, all you have to do is claim your same-relations partner on your insurance. there does not need to be evidence of any legal commitment. so the bottom line is, gay partners get insurance, commitment or not, straight partners don't.
why is that so hard for you to wrap your head around?

Massachusetts allows gay marriage, don't they? In which case it's really not logical. Maybe the law is a remnant from the pre-gay-marriage days.

First of all, if he's a student, he can be covered under his parent's plan. He should look into that.

Read your own words. Domestic partnership means a committed relationship.
And I sense your thinly veiled hostility towards me. Not only isn't it appreciated, I'm going to tell Yael if it continues.
