Does a new plata need to be toiveled? I would ask my rav but I would like to do it soon and he won't get back to me in time.
Thanks!

No, because you don't put food directly on it. Just like you don't need to toivel an oven.

Do they make Shabbos plattas outside Israel?

Interesting, I forgot to think about where it is made! Don't have it yet but I'll check.

If I put challa directly on it, I would have to toivel it?

Not exactly plattas, but something like a warming tray.

Probably. I don't know. Ask your LOR.

I actually do line it with foil anyway and I have an Israeli one too. But I was just wondering.

Some things you can toivel and let them dry out for about a week.

What's usually better is to give it to a Jewish electrician who takes it apart as only professionals know how to, and puts it together again. It's then considered made by a Jew and doesn't need toivelling.

If you didn't do this before, you need to deal with things like a sandwich toaster, electric kettle, toaster etc.

Well I've toivelled an electric kettle before without any problem. You just have to make sure not to use it for a couple of days until it's completely dry.

I also remember hearing that there is no need to toivel things that don't come into direct contact with food, like top part of a hand-held blender (just toivel the bottom attachments).

But I honestly can't remember what I learned about a toaster oven. I mean, do people toivel Foreman grill?

We just toiveled the grill parts (removable) on the Foreman (we DIDN'T dunk the whole thing). We were told that the "bun warmer" on top does not need to be toiveled.

Yes, you CAN toivel everything, even electric appliances, and let them dry out. It voids the warranty and it's dangeous, though.

I don't buy the appliances that absolutely require tevilah. I'm not taking that chance.
