Anyone have a recipe for rice besides plain/with chicken or sweet? Like maybe a savory rice kugel?
Having a guest this weekend who is gluten free and avoids sugar.... And bored of serving plain rice.

Fried rice -- rice with vegetables, egg, and soy sauce.

You have a good recipe that is low on soy sauce (which has gluten)?

Rice and mushrooms is the best and so easy. Just chop onions and sauté if you want. Slice mushrooms. Put them in the pot and make rice according to the package directions but with less water because the mushrooms release a lot. You can also bake it. Add some chicken consume for extra flavor if you want.
You can also google "Rice side dishes". I just did and got a ton, no sweet options even came up, and mushroom rice was the first one!

You could also serve potato kugel, that's gluten free... or pumpkin-sweet potato kugel with cashews... or any kind of vegetable kugel

Sauté diced onion. Add mushrooms or any other veggies (optional) and sauté until soft. Add a bit of soy sauce (you can use gluten free or skip it and just add salt and pepper and a bit of other liquid - broth, almond milk, or Italian dressing all work). Put in cooked rice and mix well till heated through.
This is a favorite around here. It is great warm or at room temp (I even like it cold).

Many soy sauce brands are gluten-free. (Look for the word tamari)
Squash or other vegetable stuffed with rice.
Wild rice (plain or with nuts, or nuts and craisins)? Brown rice?
Celebrate has a recipe for rice with spinach, onion and garlic, and more.
Sushi salad?
Quiche in a rice crust?
Good shabbos!

KBD Spinach Rice
2 Tbsp olive oil
2 onions, minced in food processor
1 cup long grain rice
2 3/4 cups water
1 (10 oz) box frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry (or 2/3 of a 16 oz bag)
1.5 tsp salt
freshly ground black pepper
garlic powder
In large frying pan heat oil Ober medium high heat. Add onion and rice and sautee until lightly brown, stirring to keep from sticking.
Add water, spinach, pepper and garlic powder. Reduce heat to simmer, cover and cook for about 20 min or until liquid is absorbed. Taste and adjust salt and seasonings as needed.
