The first floor of the Pierre Hotel on Fifth Avenue used to be the most stunningly decorated place in the world. Everything was traditonal and classy.
TAJ Hotels took it over now, and after a 100 Million dollar renovation (reopened in June), they have Modern Art from India in the lobby, simple furniture with lucite legs, so shoddy in comparison to what it used to look like. The walls used to be faux limestone some places and hand painted in others. I walked through the first floor today and felt like I was having a bad dream. Bad taste. The only thing I liked is the geometric patterned marble floors, that were there all the time.
What a waste of 100 Million. Someone made a lot of money for nothing.
