I found a recipe that involved sauteing cucumbers, and I thought that it was a very strange concept, and decided to try it with some modifications. It's very simple and surprisingly very very good! You must use only fresh, hard cucumbers (I used English cucumbers, but I guess any kind will do, taking out the seeds if necessary). I don't have an exact recipe, but here's what I did:

1 English cucumber
1 cup flour
butter/oil
2 Tablespoons lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste

Cut cucumber in half lengthwise, take out the seeds if they're big or soggy or if you don't like them (I cut out the seeds for one half and left them in for the other and they were equally yummy in the end). Now cut cucumber in 3/4 inch pieces. Put flour in a bag and place the cucumber chunks in the flour. Shake very well, ensuring that cucumbers are fully coated in flour. Heat margarine/butter/oil in a pan on medium-high. Once hot, add coated cucumbers. Mix occasionally so that all the flour is golden/brown. Should take about 10 minutes. Add lemon juice, salt and pepper and whatever other spices your heart desires. Cook for another minute. Enjoy!

In some cultures cucumbers are cooked, indeed.

YESHASettler I remember you posted it for me once since I mistakenly froze my lettuce. I never ended up making it because I was too lazy.

Thanks willow!

Take a whole bunch of celery and dice it. Add a chopped onion.

Place in a large pot and add half a cup of water.

Simmer covered until the onions turn translucent.

Wash a whole head of Romain lettuce and shred.

Add the lettuce, cover again and simmer for 10-15 minutes.

Add some black pepper, toss and serve hot or cold.

It's an absolutely fantastic salad.
