Anyone know where I can buy fabric in brooklyn? preferably not an expensive place.

I know manhattan has a huge supply but its much easier for me to look in brooklyn. I am in crown heights but anywhere in brooklyn I am interested in hearing about.

Is Boro Park O.K.? if yes you can go to Katz fabric store acrross from Mrs K. She is very helpful and not that expensive

There is a fabric store on Nostrand Avenue between J and K

I think it's open in the summer on weekdays between 12 and 7

I have never bought fabrib there but I use the seamstress who works there and she is very inexpensive so I am assuming that the fabric is reasonably priced...

also try Lana Fabrics on Kings Highway between E8th and E9th (near Fox's). Also not so expensive.

Gold Thimble on New Utrecht Avenue, between 53rd and 54th is a fun inexpensive place. You won't find the expensive wools there, but they have so many pretty fabrics.

I believe that katz's fabric in Boro park is on New Utretch (or Fort Hamilton) and about 45th or 46th Street (maybe 47th). It is great. The lady is very helpful and will help you to design something.

If closer to Flatbush is better for you- check out Sew Materialistic 718-338-6104 on Mc Donald between avenues I and J.

teehee, my grandma closed, but one of her ex employees is in Bay Ridge. Third Ave near 82nd St, J&A Fabrics. Good prices.

How do prices in Sew Materialistic compare to online prices (say, www.fashionfabricsclub.com)?

It depends mostly on what you are looking for, I guess. But, for the most part they are pretty comprable in price to sites online, with some things less expensive. They also have their own website, www.sew-materialistic.com ,but with regards to fabric, they only sell quilting fabric online (but other stuff too).

Cohen's Fabrics in williamsburg is not expensive and huge selection. Its worth the trip. They are the only one in williamsburg that survived normally since people stopped sewing because they are cheap and good.
