Does anyone know the original song that Shlock Rock parodied in their song, "Eliahu Hanavi?" It's on their album, "Learning is Good."

I'm usually good at knowing the original, but I just can't place this one.

I listened to it, sounds familiar, almost on the tip of my tongue.

I always have that with their songs. I wish there was a list of the songs they parodied. Aren't they supposed to credit the original composers?

It's very similar to Rock Around the Clock, but not it. I don't think it's well known in any case.

No, aribenj-- you don't have to credit a song if you are parodying it, since it's clear that it's a parody. Otherwise you'd have to pay.

As a librarian it always makes me nuts when I can't find the answer to a question, so I emailed Lenny Solomon and will get back to you all with the answer to this stumper hopefully soon! Smile

...and the official answer from the King of Shlock himself, is that "Eliyahu Hanavi" is the only original song on that album!

If anyone wants the full list of original songs/parodies from all the Shlock Rock albums, PM me with an email address and I'll send you the file...

That's so funny, mominisrael, I emailed him too. He and I have several mutual friends and I had already emailed him shortly after asking this list.

I thought I had signed up to "follow this thread" but hadn't gotten any of the replies. Now Lenny is probably wondering why this song is so suddenly popular! They'll probably make sure to include it in their next performance:-)

LOL...he does love to hear from his fans though! I've met him a number of times too -- first time I was about 14 and practically star-struck when he was in my community for shabbat and my mom gave him a ride to where he was staying...I did a CD review for "Osher V'Osher" when it came out, and he was pretty impressed that his reviewer was a fan old enough to recognize that some of the songs on there were covers from as far back as his pre-Shlock Rock days... Smile
