The name of this weeks parsha, "Noach" is of the root word "Menucha-" tranquility.
The 40 days of rain during the flood are representative of the talmudic measurement of 40 se'ah of water (about 191 gallons) required in a kosher mikvah. The mikvah waters serve the purpose of cleansing a person in preparation for prayer and other holy acts. The stormy mabul, albeit destructive, cleansed the world of its wickedness and elevated the environment to a higher level of holiness.
The waters of the flood are actually referred to as "the waters of Noach," representing this purification quality of the flood to elevate the world to a state of "menucha-" tranquility.
May we merit true purity and spiritual tarnquility with the coming of Moshiach, now!
