Maybe tmi but here it is...

Does the smell of baby poop indicate anything? I assume most nursing babies have a sweet smelling poop but mine is smelling sour. Is this even something to ask the doctor?? He maybe has reflux (I'm not sure and neither does the doctor at this point) so I'm wondering if that is playing a part.

Wondering what you think (or know)!

It can have to do with what you ate. If baby doesn't seem fussy, you don't see anything like blood in it, I'd ignore it.

It always smelled this way? Then I wouldn't worry about it.

My baby's poop smelled terrible when he was exclusively breast fed. Like sour milk, like his breath. Guess we are just the lucky ones.

I have heard this myth, too, and have come to the conclusion that diff. ppl have diff. ideas about what constitutes "sweet-smelling". The horsey set likes the "fragrance" of horse, whereas I use "you smell like a horse" when I mean to be very insulting. (The only thing worse, used when I need the really BIG guns, is "you smell like an elephant." And I mean that in the nicest way.)

Bekitzur, don't take that "sweet-smelling poop" thing too literally unless you meet a mother who is willing to wear it as perfume.

Whoever said it was supposed to smell "sweet" probably meant "sickly-sweet"
