Not putting it out on shabbos is a d'rabbanan so that you won't come to trap the animal...
There apparently are some minority opinions that you can put it out for shabbos shira on shabbos, but only for shabbos shira, but it is definitely preferable not to, and is an issur by the overwhelming majority of poskim.

it sort of stays together, but the one I made was a little crumbly. Possibly because the kasha I used was "medium granule" and not whole? or maybe I changed the recipe a little? I'm not sure. But it was still yummy

SWEET KASHA KUGEL
1 cup of Orange Juice or grape juice
1 cup water
1 T. margarine/oil
1/2 cup kasha
2 eggs, beaten

I think I doubled the recipe and froze half, because this shabbos I took it out of the freezer, though I made it several weeks ago. I made it in 8-inch round pans.
