My mil swears by her $1500 steam machine that she uses to clean for Pesach. Has anyone ever had one? There are cheaper ones. Is it really worth the investment? Is there a difference between the cheap ones and the expensive ones? Steam is steam, so shouldn't it not make such a difference?

We had a cheaper one once and it was great. If I could I would but a more expensive one but they are alot of money. Well worth it.

The difference may be water pressure, size of reservoir, speed of heating the water to steam, ease of use, safety features, accessories etc. I don't have one but have heard they are great for cleaning window/trissim tracks, bathrooms etc.

Can you borrow hers or rent one? That seems like a huge expenditure for something you would rarely use.

We have a relatively cheap bissel steam cleaner but it's a bit of a disappointment. The reservoir is MUCH smaller than the higher end ones so it took FOREVER to do our downstairs. And it broke down a couple of times in the first two years. So now we rent a rug doctor from the grocery store. SOOO much more worth it. $20 3 or 4 times a year vs. even the less expensive $300 models, it would have taken 4 or 5 years to pay off, IF the Bissell had lasted that long.

Maybe you could borrow from a friend? That's what my mother always does. And it's def. worth it! It really is awesome!

Can someone enlighten those who don't have one what the steam machine does/what you use it for? I use my regualr iron for steaming the counter top. If it's for carpets/upholstery, I just use specialist cleaners.

It's used for cleaning. I shpritzes boiling water on hard to get places and easy to get places and you wipe it off with shmattes. Supposedly, it makes cleaning much easier.
Thanks everyone!
