I recently purchased an item from k-mart and saw it a week later marked $15.00 less then what I paid. I brought it to customer service who said they do not do price adjustments. The woman behind me ( not jewish) suggested that I buy that one and then return it with my old receipt. Sounds like a good idea but is this halachicly and ethically ok?

I don't know, just seems a little dishonest. But..I'd love to save those $15.00

I don't think it's dishonest at all as long as you never used the first item that you bought.

I did use the first item which is why it was suggested that I buy it again at the cheaper price and return that one with the initial receipt.

If you were able to make use of it when it wasn't on sale, imo it's stealing.

I think it's incredibly dishonest. they told you their policy already, and you used it already. you were willing to spend the extra fifteen bucks to buy it, so why is this so important? and to return an item with another item's receipt would be gneivas daas, imo.

Sorry- I totally misread the original post. Returning an item with another item's receipt is totally dishonest. But if you wanted to return the first one, with the proper receipt, and you never used it, then I don't think it would be a problem. Returning the newer one with the old receipt is wrong!

because it's outright lying, greenie. it's using the wrong receipt knowingly in order to fool the company into forking over fifteen bucks. which she willingly paid before. best not to do it.
