this is happening lately from time to time and I can't figure out what is causing it. When I mask an image the part I'm masking out seems to be leaving behind a shadow. Anyone know what can be causing it?
TIA

Feathered Edge? Is that on, check the top bar - maybe it is set to 1px.

you mean the brush? no that's not the problem. Even if I don't use a feathered brush it leaves behind a shadow.

when you make a marque or any other type of selection - on the top a bar the feather option might be set to 1px or more.

is there a drop shadow on the layer--if there is you can go into the layer effects I think under blending properties (something like that) and check off masking hides effects

If you're using a brush to create the mask, are the opacity and flow set to 100%?
