Chana comes from the word chein which means pleasant.
Not sure about Akiva, I think its aramaic.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Chana.
I think it is so graceful and elegant in both sound and meaning.
Also, the letters stand for the 3 mitzvos of a woman - Challah, Niddah, Hadlakas Neiros.
It also was my beloved grandmother's name.
I would have wanted very much to give the name to my daughter, but it is my MIL's Hebrew name (although she is known by her English name so I don't associate it with her).
