Here is my question.
I have invited 2 couples with kids to my place for shabbos lunch. It's potluck and we are all quite informal. Here is my dilemma, I am finishing the pesach cleaning of dining room and living room today (G-d willing).
Can I possibly serve lunch in the kitchen? or is it completely inapropriate

If you have a table in their, y not? Everyone knows it's close to Peach. At this time of year my parents have all the food in the dining room on a table on the side. It's looks very messy, but that's life. You can always buy nice paper plates to make up for being in the kitchen.

I remember the first time I had a real Shabbos in C.H., and they takeh served in the kitchen.

I remember it to this day; it wasn't bad, but it was odd!

You said it's potluck and informal, so if your kitchen is big enough, why not? (You must have a BIG kitchen! I envy you.) No one should be expecting service fit for a Presidential inauguration so close to Pesach, especially with small children in the picture.

I'd be thrilled to be invited to a picnic just before Pesach, let alone Shabbos lunch--no matter what room it's in.

It's fine. And they'll definitely understand due to the circumstances!

If anything they should be grateful they don't have to do it in their own homes, so don't worry about it.
