Our 3-month old son has yucky goop in the back of his hair!!! None or our other kids had this - HELP! There are four small tufts of it and another one is starting. Yes, I wash and brush regularly. EEK!

We do not cut the hair before 3. Anybody with experience in this STRANGE situation?

Sounds like cradle cap. Basically baby dandruff. Yellowish scaly oily patches?

You can use a tiny drop of dandruff shampoo on the spots regularly. Some kids have it related to eczema/food allergies but for most it's just a routine part of infancy. Icky but no big deal.

We don't cut til 3 either, and my 17 month old is a champ at getting everything he eats in his hair, which is driving me totally bonkers!

For cradle cap, pour a drop of baby oil in the bathtub. I find it works well.

or pour some warmed olive oil or baby oil directly on the plaques, rub in, let set a few hours or overnight. then shampoo and gently scrub off the scales with a nail brush. This is not a cure, as the scales will likely come back till your son outgrows it.

cradle cap is unsightly but not dangerous. don't pick at it with your fingernails, lest you cause an infection and turn a social problem into a health problem.

Now I see you mean something else, but for kids who get chewing gum in their hair there is the ice cube technique to freeze it, and make it easier to scrape off (les gummy), and the peanut butter one to dissolve it.
