When I purchased my computer it came along with a 6-month free trial of internet access by AOL. The 6-month trial is coming to a close and I'd like to sign up for access and don't want to spend a lot of money. I currently have dial-up. I've considered broadband but it doesn't fit into my current budget. Any recommendations? I live in NY.

If you don't mind sticking with diapup, there are a lot of plans cheaper than aol. Try peoplepc.com, isp.com, and juno.com to start.

Sometimes your phone company has good deals for DSL- I pay $17 a month.

AT&T DSL is $12.99 a month here.

Mine WAS 12.99 a month, but after a year you can either keep your plan for $30 / month, or upgrade to a faster speed for $17 a month. Guess which I chose?

when you cancel with aol, many times they offer you an extra couple of months. we had a year of it b/c every time we called to cancel they kept adding more!

Just be REALLY careful to cancel before the time- AOL is the MOST expensive service out there.
