I am making Italian Market soup for shabbos. It calls for 11 different beans. I make it in the crockpot. The beans need to soak overnight.
Does anyone know of a quick fix?

The bag often includes instructions for a quick soak. Bring it to a boil and then turn it off. Let it soak for as long as you can. I think it recomends 4 hours, but less should be ok. (I don't know how much time you have left )

I have about five hours. I did not buy the beans in a bag. They were loose. I couldn't remember the trick. Do you think five hours soaking and overnight in the crock will be enough time? Should I add extra water and do it on high?
Thank you so very much.

I never soak my beans, I just cook them on stovetop. Once it bubbles, mix constantly.... Rinse & do what you gotta do.

I wouldn't add more water after the soak, but I would put it on high until they felt soft, and then turn it to low. Maybe let it soak for 3 hours and then turn it on high for 2 hours before shabbos? That is just a guess though

you can quick soak by boiling the water and then turning the flame to very low.
Pour off the water and add fresh to cook.

I sometimes do a quick soak. Cover the beans with enough water, atleast an inch. Bring to a boil, shut the flame and then let stand for an hour. Good Luck!

I often just cover the beans with 2" water and then boil for 10mins leave to soak for another 10 and use them.

I don't sock my beans. AFAIK one of the main reasons to soak beforehand is soaking beans leech out the chemical that makes beans gassy. So soaked beans won't cause as much gastric distress.

for next emergency you can boil the beans with some baking soda and it willl soften them in no time. However beware you lose some of the nutritional value this way so it's just for when you forget ;-)

Right. An hour soak is enough.
