you can have a book sale
scholastic books
the kids write down which books they want and tell their parents
you can hold this in the lunch room the book sale
some parents can donate books from the list to the class room
for birthdays etc. they can inscribe the books .

In the beginning of the school year, the PTA prepare bags with all the kids school supplies that they need in it from 1st to 8th grade. The parents only have to buy the bag and that is the end of there school supply shopping.
