We like something SMOKEY, NOT too sweet, and NOT too spicy (a bit spicy is ok).
Either your favourite store bought brand, or homemade recipe.

if ur not only looking for heimish, I like the bullseye brand of bbq sauces- they have a variety of flavors, some sweeter, some spicier, etc. enjoy!

Jack daniel's Spicy Original - not too sweet or spicy, just a kick of flavor. delicious!
Put on chicken under & over skin, then broil. A big hit at my house.

Are you looking for a vinegar based sauce like those popular in the Carolinas or a tomato based sauce?

my absolute favorite is homemade...it is incredible!nothing I have ever bought came close!
1/2 white onion
3 cloves garlic
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 2/3 cups ketchup
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Directions:
1
Put olive oil in a sauce pan on medium heat and cook onion and garlic until they are soft.
2
Then add the white vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, worcestershire sauce, chili powder, and cayenne pepper.
3
Let this simmer for 30 minutes.

It doesn't have to be heimish brand, OU or equivalent hechsherim would do.
I looked at the last bottle (Glicks) and had tomato puree as the primary ingredients so I presume it's tomato based.
I'm intrigued to make my own as well--I did find liquid smoke at a kosher shop here.
To be honest we tend to marinate meat in BBQ sauce and broil in the oven rather than proper
charcoal BBQ, so I would really need some smokey flavour. Do you think liquid smoke would be
too artificial/too overwhelming?

I also like Hunt's Bold or homemade (mix of catsup, honey, soy sauce, garlic, onion, salt and pepper, spices, wine vinegar --no precise amounts). I'm not a big fan of the smokey taste.
