When you make salad recipes and they call for a cup of oil, do you really add it all?

The usual rule for salad dressings is 1 part acid and 2 parts oil. So if you are using 1/2 cup of vinegar then 1 cup of oil makes sense. But I would only use that sort of recipe on shabbos or special occasion. It's too much oil for a regular night.

I find that using much, much less oil (like 1 tablespoon!) is usually sufficient.

I always 1/2 the oil and sugar. Makes no difference in taste. Btw, started halving the amount of sugar in baking too.

In general I cut down on oil and eggs and sugar listed in recipes and still get compliments and requests ffor seconds 8) I am sure they say more having this in mind

Pink tichel, getting healthy? I don't lessen anything in baking. I'm always worried it won't come out right. As for dressings, I never use any that have more than 1/4-1/2c oil.

I never add that much, but oil is not bad for you, its the fried oil, the oil that you fry in thats bad for your arteries, ther than that oil in salad is not bad for you. I just think that much oil is kinda gross, unless its a huge salad

Usually, the first time I follow a recipe, I follow it exactly. After that I change it around according to my taste, less oil, less sugar more spice - whatever it is...

I heard that light olive oil isn't as healthy as the pure virgin olive oil. Though, I do like it better - not as strong.

I thought it was equal parts of oil and vinegar.

I think one cup is gross! I know someone who douses her salads in oil and I refuse to eat them. I find that 1 tbs or 2 is sufficient for a big salad.
