Herpes/cold sore in 5-6 month old

I know herpes is very dangerous in a newborn, but what about a 5 or 6 month old. My 5.5 month old son was exposed to and probably touched what I think is a cold sore on the side of my lip. Is it dangerous if he were to catch the virus at his age. When one of my babies was 6 weeks old, it was suspected that he may have had herpes and was on IV anti viral meds. If he shows symptoms, do I need to bring him to the doctor at this age?
