I keep getting emails from uk lotteries, saying that I won..

should I believe those things, or is it a bunch of ****?

They ask for my information, like name, adress, phone number..
if they ask for bank info, that's one thing I"m not worried about, bec. I have 2 bank accounts and in one of them I dont have any money.. so even if they try to, they can't take a/thing out of that account..

Here is one email I got 2 days ago.

ATTN:WINNER,

say congratulations to you for being one of the lucky winner of this year
2007 lottery Promotions and it was sponsored by the British government.

email address as one of the lucky winner of the promotion and your email
address then luckily won you a lump sum of (753,437,000).

I would NOT respond. It could be identity theft and then you will be left with a lot of debt in your name.

Rule # 1 - Email is not secure! Never email someone your social security number, your credit card number, or your name/phone/address in 1 email. Break it up into separate emails if you have no choice for the latter.

Rule # 2 – any email asking you to reply with your info is bogus.

Rule # 3 – any email from an official looking place that says ‘your account is deactivated, lick here to reopen’ all that is junk. Your bank knows how to contact you and if you bank online, check your bank’s help pages for ‘spam and phishing’ and they will describe to you how their emails work.

If the email looks so real and you’re not sure, delete it. THEN log in to your bank account yourself, without going through the email link. See if there is a notice for you over there. If its an urgent message, you will see it right away after logging in to your account.

Rule # 3 – Secure pages! Never enter your info unless you trust the website, PLUS you see that the page is encrypted with security, how do you know? Read here http://www.thesweetshoppe.com/.....e.asp

And finally, if you’re unsure, post the message of the email here.

The way I figure it is, if I really won all that money they can simply mail me a check! As far as I know, the only legitimate lotteries are those of New York Lottery etc.

recently we received a small check in the mail that we won somehow or other, they did not say. I called the 1-800 number given and it was an answering machine which did not take messages. I investigated on Yahoo and learnt that this is a major scam to have people deposit the check in their bank account. Then this so called company has your personal info plus your account number and they manage to take it from there and empty out your funds (probably followup call from 'the bank' as they have your account number... they will just ask you for whatever info they still need to rob you!!!! many elderly are wiped out clean this way.
