Anyone ever heard of this type of schooling?

When I started reading about it, it really creeped me out.

http://www.waldorfworld.net/Waldorf/

There are lawsuits saying that the schools are teaching racism. Also the person who started this type of teaching was an Austrian.

In one thread motek mentioned how we should try to teach our kids how to read as early as possible sometimes starting as early as 2. The waldorf teaching methods believes in not teaching reading or writing tell at least the age of 8. They promote imagination and creativity.

I thought this was interesting....but kind of creepy.. there is more to their teaching methods like they believe in gnomes. Only natural materials in the school. The same teacher teaches them for from when they enter the school till they graduate. No black crayons allowed in the younger grades. Also they teach alot of knitting....hmmm

any thoughts...

Quote:
Started more than 80 years ago in Europe (where they are called Steiner Schools), there are more than 600 Waldorf schools in over 30 countries, with 20 in Canada. Named after a German cigarette factory where the first school opened, Waldorf schools were founded by Rudolf Steiner, a prominent New Age-style Austrian philosopher and self-styled clairvoyant who started a movement called Anthroposophy.

It's definatley not a Torah approach shall we say shock
however
Quote:
"As I said to one set of parents who came to us with a child diagnosed with serious behavioural disorders," reports Ottawa Waldorf School teacher Mel Belanson, "you must bring your child here right away. This is a rescue operation. Take him off the meds and get him away from the therapists."

On this point, Waldorf parents who believe today's children are over-medicated for behaviour disorders are in good company, with many reputable physicians claiming that far too many of today's children are given medication

There they have a point Confused
