OK, I know this is really random, but I'm stuck on researching something.
My sister's writing a Harry Potter fanfiction, and I'm her research machine. We're stuck on a question that Google couldn't answer for us, so I'm turning to the Imamother community for help:
How exactly are bar mitzvahs celebrated in the yeshivish UK community?
(If you want to read her story, click here. It's quite good, in my opinion )

Thanks for posting the link! Some parts are just making me squee with utter geeky delight.
(Sorry I can't help you with your research, though...)

you can get more responses if you change the title to "Question about Bar Mitzvahs in the UK" or something like that.

If Yehuda's Mummy is cooking for Pesach, why is flour dusting her snood? (about halfway down the first page.)

Very well done! I am really impressed with her writing ability, and will be following her -- and telling my kids who are into fanfic that they may wan to as well.
One small quibble about the scene where Yehuda is looking for a hechsher.
In the past, I think that in Britain, many or most packaged foods did not carry a printed hechsher, but there are lists available of which foods have certification. I think that is still the case.
American certified foods, which are imports, are often more expensive, and perhaps less likely to be bought first.
Tell your sister to google England kosher to learn more.
And I second the suggestion that you edit the title of this thread, OP. If you change it to something like, "question about what bar mitzvah is like in London", you may get a better response.

I just finished reading this and I love it!!! I am really looking forward to reading further installments.
Is it okay if I forward it to other people to read?

OP
You can definitely forward the link to other people.
Mods, can you change the title for me? Can't do it in an anonymous post.
Thanks for all your reviews (and criticisms). I've forwarded them to my sister.
I changed the thread title for you. — Rubber Ducky as mod

Besides, in England she'd be wearing trousers. Or at any rate, her pants would hopefully not be showing. And I do hope all of us wear the UK kind of pants.

Just read the first few chapters — love it! I forwarded it to DS#1, bookmarked it, and will read more later.

LOL, OP, I see you're really staying on top of this thread. Both my corrections were immediately carried out.

I agree with this point, basically, but I will point out about three years ago I found crisps with a LBD hechsher in the London City airport. So if Yehuda was looking for a hechsher on a packaged item, that's probably what he'd be looking for, not OU, Star K or Kedassia.

UK amother here. What would you like to know? I'm short on time now but perhaps if you post some questions I'll try to respond tomorrow morning (UK time ).
