I bought a beautiful Lani needlepoint and I'd like to work some advanced stitches into the piece. Can anyone recommend a great learn it yourself needlepoint book that has advanced stitches? TIA and anon bec. discussing this IRL.

I adore the Embroidery Stitch bible by Betty Barnden. http://www.amazon.com/Embroide.....bible It's divided into two parts, the first part is freeform (crewel), and the second is canvas stitches. I haven't really used the canvas parts, but I've been able to use the crewel sections to learn several stitches, so I see no reason why the canvas section shouldn't be equally as good.

The Needlepoint Book by Jo Ippolito Christenson is an excellent source that has been around forever. Both the original and updated editions can be found easily.
