I don't plan on giving up.
Baby gained 1 lb in 2 weeks since birth, so must be getting enough right?

That sounds healthy.
My mother felt that my older brother was always on a growth spurt from when he was born. (His baby looks to be the same way!)
Some nurses like to scare you if your baby isn't textbook. If he's eating regularly, developing and gaining weight, he's probably fine. He may want to eat more often. Mine ate every 4hrs, some eat every 2.
