dd wants heelys.her friends wear them to school.are they safe?

probably as safe as roller blades or skake boards. you need good sense to know appropriate time and place and you still need protective wear: helmet, knee pads, etc, but most kids probably won't wear them with heelies cause they're more spontaneous than blades

My sons school banned them. I think a bunch of kids skating through the schools halls is a safety hazard, and disruptive too.

Just a few weeks ago, a boy in my sons fifth grade class, slipped while wearing them IN CLASS! He went back to his desk and refused to get up the whole day saying his leg hurt. It turned out that he had broken his leg.
The school has now banned them.

Because the wheel is in the heel, the only way to skate, is to put all your weight on your heels, and lift your toes off the ground. Not a very balanced position. My kids are also always begging for Heely's, but I think they are really not safe, especially as another poster pointed out, since no one ever wears a helmet with these. THey are treated like regular shoes.

When I was working at cheder this morning a note was sent home about some concerns with croks. They are also unstable on small feet.
