After 10 years, my electric hotplate needs to be replaced. The panel where the cord attaches to the base has come unscrewed and cannot be fixed.

Can anyone recommend a replacement that is safe and good? Inexpensive is also a huge plus. I'd like to buy it online asap, but I could also buy in Teaneck or Lakewood if necessary.

Thanks!

Interesting BC mine just broke and I was by someone for shabbos and they had a blech and left the stove on, so I did the same ! It's much cheaper and really working out better than the hotplate!!

The inexpensive ones are usually not that safe.
Do some research and look into IsraHeat.

Thanks for your replies.

It is an electric hotplate (plata), not a sheet of metal. The one I have is IsraHeat.

Can't use a regular blech since I have an electric glass stovetop.

Any other ideas?

So glad you posted this... I need one too! Too scared of carbon monoxide to do the sheet of metal on the stove- plus with kids around it is harder to keep it out of reach.

Any online people like?

WATER BLECH! Best. Thing. EVER.

Get two industrial steel cookie sheets, one slightly smaller than the other. Fill the smaller one with boiling water, and place the larger one on top. Set your stove to simmer, and you'll have the perfect temperature all Shabbos long, with no burning on the bottom of your food.

Because it makes a kli sheini, it also solves a lot of halachic problems. Check with your LOR to find out what you can and can't put on it, and how you can take off and replace foods.

Best of all, there's no chance of it starting a fire. Very Happy

I bought this one and really like it (I use a heavy duty timer with it as a safety measure)
