My DS was just diagnosed with Celiac's. It's been hard to diagnose, it's taken almost 2 years and a few tests and a few biopsies.

Over the last year and a half he's had spelt bread that I've made for challah on shabbos. Now this isn't possible. He also cannot tolerable GF oats. If you are in this situation what do you about 'challah'/washing on Shabbos?

I don't wash, I have an extra cup of grape juice instead of hamotzi. ask a rav about benching.

You drink grape juice, a revi'is to be koveyah seudah. And he may be able to eat oats in the future. Many people get allowed back on after a year or so.

My kids wash and bentch on Katz's gf regular rolls. Can't have the oats yet. We asked a shailah and the rav explained it's being kovei seudah on it so they can wash and bentch on that. This is for kids under 13...not sure if it's the same if older.

I don't know about this particular brand, but ask a rav to look at the rolls in question. my dad was told that the gf rolls available were not eligible for hamotzi. if your kids can't have gluten and can't tolerate oats, there isn't any hamotzi grain in the rolls. no washing and benching.

Yes... I realize there's no grains.. This was all explained to the rav and that was his psak.. Again everyone needs to ask their own rav.

Thanks so much. We'll definitely ask the Rav, I was just wondering what other people did in this situation.

My dd also was told to drink a reviis of grape jiuice by our rav. After a year or so she was allowed to try oats and she can tolerate them, so she washes on oat challah.
