ATT Graphic Designers - Which pantone reference guide do you recommend? They are so expensive (hundreds of dollars) and I want to make the right choice.

Don't wanna steal the thread so tell me if I should start a spinoff- I'm new to gd. What is a Pantone guide? I know what Pantone colors are but why the guide?

The"guides" are actually fan books of swatches showing different combinations of ink and their "recipes." You would want to use them because colors on a computer screen are different than printed colors. When you pay a bunch for printing, you don't want surprises. So you use the color guides to have a better idea of what your printed product will look like.
Similarly, you might look at a lot of swatches at a paint store or look through a fan deck of paint colors — rather than choose a color on a screen — to decide the best color to paint a room.
