I started getting my period without any introduction. The only info I had was from a book about a girl who was hiding during WWII who started her menses and used a napkin. So I got napkins from the kitchen and put them in my underwear. It was only in school the next day when I soaked right through the napkins and through my skirt and the secretary called my mother to come get me that I learned all about it. It was the most horrifying moment of my life.
