Does anyone have any ideas of things that I can send to day camp for lunch that won't get ruined from the heat. I would love to send peanut butter sandwiches, but camp is nut free.
I don't want to have to send ice packs in the lunch bags.

Thanks.

I've been known to send noodles or whole wheat bagels with jelly. the whole wheat has protein in it, and so it didn't have cream cheese, but there's little protein in that. Cereal also works well. We were nut free all year in nursery, and I'm so relieved that camp allows peanut butter (so is my seriously picky eater).

Hummus is also probably okay in the heat. Ask where the lunches will be kept. At one backyard camp my kids went to, the lunches were kept in the bags inside the house, so cheese and stuff was fine. At others, this wasn't the case.

My sister used to freeze the juice boxes, so they worked like ice packs, but then were drinks, so they didn't have to be brought home.

What does that mean, "camp is nut free"?

many schools and camps have a "no nut" policy because there are so many children with nut allergies.

hard cheese will keep better than soft cheese. The juice box or water bottle frozen is a great idea. By the time it comes to lunch your kid will have a nice cold drink, and the sandwiches will stay fresh.

Otherwise...maybe honey or fruit spread and cheesesticks for protein?

My mother always froze my juice box and it kept my food nice and cool.
