We have a trunk full of old photo albums that we only go through a few times a year. Its taking up a lot of room, and not all the photo albums fit in there. Whats the best way to store the photo albums so its out of the way, but the photos are not ruined?
(( Dont have time to scan them all in. tried that a few times. never got far. not willing to pay anyone else to do that. ))

Digitizing is definitely the way to go. It takes forever and can be quite expensive. A relative used ScanMyPhotos: http://www.scanmyphotos.com/ph.....html. For about $150 they send you a box, you fill it up, they return the box and original photos plus a dvd of the scans. She put about 1500 3x5 (or maybe 4x6?) photos in the box and says that was all she could fit though the web page says it should go up to 1800 photos in the box.
If you want to keep physical copies of your photos, don't keep them in vinyl albums. Don't keep them in cardboard boxes. You should really be using mylar. You might need to buy these sort of albums online. Only keep acid free paper (not newspaper clippings!) in the box. You can also look for the PAT certification if you buy new albums (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photographic_Activity_Test).

Buy bigger albums and transfer the pictures in order of history.

The thing about digitalizing is that as soon as the technology is obsolete so are the pictures. You can still read the Magna Charta , but something on a real old fashioned floppy disk from 25 years ago is no longer accessible.
Just putting it out there.

thats not quite true. Technologies overlap - so if you keep up with it, you shouldn't loose things.
