Does anyone know of a sp. ed school in and around Brooklyn area. for boys. Ds has difficulty learning but is a very well behaved child. He does have some social awkwardness but it's mild. I would ideally love for him to be with high functioning well behaved kids but I know that is a lot to ask for. He has gone to mainstream school and camp in the past but I don't think he would manage in a regular high school.
Ps Im not looking for a small school, I need him in a school that offers academic support..not just less kids. TIA!!!

There is a boys' program- I don't know if it extends to high school though. (I know people currently enrolled in it.)

I think there are around 15 boys in the cahal program. My understanding is that they are together in a group in the morning with their own rebbe. In the afternoon the boys join the mainstream secular classes likely in the lower level class with support. I'm not sure what the support entails.

That is interesting bc when I applied there 4 years ago, the director called me and told me they were closing and he got a position in another school.

I know that at a certain point they were having money issues- but people stepped in and things changed. There are currently 4 programs within Ichud. Girls high school, girls elementary, boys, and boys chassidish. I don't know if boys extends to high school. Perhaps they can tell you where their male graduates usually continue on for high school.

I'm not sure. I live close by and see some very low functioning kids go there. My son has learning issues and some social awkwardness but there is nothing that looks off about him. He is bright in many ways and would probably do better in a regular school with an integrated program. but thanks for the suggestion.

bumping this thread. I'm curious where you sent your son and if he is happy there.

Are there any other programs that are in a regular school but are for kids who need more help (besides for the MAY program)? My son might be on a higher level than the PTACH kids but definitely needs more help than a regular yeshiva.

I dont remember writing this post but I think I am the op.
My son is currently in PTACH MTA. I like it..I feel he is pretty much learning grade level but with support. He has a very small class. In MTA boys can be mainstreamed for subjects they can manage in a regular classroom. MTA has many tracks for each subjects so that is an option. It is a Modern Orthodox school but the rebbeim and teachers are very Erlich.
